welcome
The creative is the place where no one else has ever been. You have to leave the city of your comfort and go into the wilderness of your intuition. What you'll discover will be wonderful. What you'll discover will be yourself. ~ Alan Alda
about project undertow
project undertow is an arts collective.
- mandate: to create vivid visual and sensory experiences that are innovative and political while still rooted in a strong sense of story.
- mission: to create essential, participatory, theatrical experiences that excite, stimulate and enthrall, using all the skills and materials at our disposal -- puppetry, poetry, modern dance, multi-media, visual arts, mask and original music.
- goal: to devise an original theatrical experience through collective creation, while embracing the challenge of working in non-traditional venues.
history
project undertow formed in October 2006, and grew out of the D.A.'s Office (Driven Artists' Office), a collective of ten professional Toronto-based actors who joined together for the purpose of process-oriented training, professional development, and creation. Members of the D.A.'s Office are united in the pursuit of deepening their craft and moving beyond their perceived limits, in order to contribute to the creative community and professional industry in Toronto and beyond. Since 2005, the D.A.'s Office has produced intensives and workshops with such artists as Dean Gilmour (Physical Theatre & Mask), Rosemary Dunsmore (Scene Study), Jim Warren (Clown) and John Strasberg (Naturalism vs. Realism).
